Donnie Martin tragically passed away in a road accident in 2022, prompting Skye Camanachd to launch an ambitious fundraising campaign earlier this year. The goal was to raise nearly £100,000 to construct a 100-seater stand, complete with lighting and access facilities.
Thanks to the overwhelming support from the community, the fundraising target has been met, and the construction is in its final stages. The new stand is expected to be operational just in time for the upcoming shinty season.

The seated area will be named The Donnie Martin Stand, serving as a heartfelt tribute to a man whose dedication to the club spanned over 50 years. Donnie Martin was not just a player; he wore many hats as a coach, groundsman, chairman, and chieftain, significantly shaping the club’s identity. His daughter, Kim Millar, expressed her emotions regarding the project, stating, “After the Clubhouse was built, Dad always dreamed of having a stand where supporters could watch games comfortably. This project is about making that dream a reality.”

Skye Camanachd Chairman Thomas Wilson emphasized the importance of this new stand, noting that it complements the club’s existing facilities and enhances the overall experience for players and fans. “This is a defining moment for the club,” he remarked, highlighting how the stand will serve various age groups, from youth teams to senior sides. Burton Morrison, President of the Camanachd Association, shared his fond memories of Donnie Martin, acknowledging his impact on the sport. “It’s wonderful that Skye is recognizing Donnie’s contributions to shinty, whether as a player or a volunteer,” he stated. Morrison believes that the new stand will benefit the club’s infrastructure and enhance the spectator experience, making shinty more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
