Current Fire Situation
Okay, but can we talk about how the Gifford Fire is really heating up? As of 3 PM on August 8, 2025, it’s blazing away, affecting both the northern and southern areas of Highway 166 near Gifford Trailhead, which is about 30 miles east of Santa Maria.
The fire has already scorched around 104,590 acres, and containment is sitting at just 15%. That’s wild, right? 😳
This fire is impacting both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. The California Interagency Incident Management Team (CIIMT) 5 is on the scene, rolling up their sleeves alongside CAL FIRE and local fire departments to manage the situation.
