Hearts Football Club is on the brink of a new era with the imminent appointment of Wouter Vrancken as their new manager. The 47-year-old Belgian coach has agreed to terms and is set to take the reins at Tynecastle Park, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a dynamic coaching style.

Vrancken’s arrival marks a significant milestone for Hearts, as they prepare for the 2026/27 season with renewed energy and ambition. His first competitive game in charge will be the Champions League second qualifying round against Sturm Graz on July 21 setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in the club’s history.

Vrancken’s Coaching Philosophy and Background

Known for his high-tempo, aggressive style of play Vrancken has built a reputation as a coach who can overachieve with his teams. His previous successes include winning the Belgian Cup with Mechelen in 2019 and guiding Genk to a runners-up place in the Belgian top flight in 2026.

Most recently, he led Sint-Truiden to third place and European qualification earning him the title of Coach of the Year.

Vrancken’s coaching philosophy is characterized by energy, aggression, and a high press on opponents. His ability to motivate and inspire his players has made him a sought-after coach, with reported interest from clubs like Anderlecht, Burnley, Lorient and Ludogorets. Now, he brings his unique approach to Hearts, aiming to elevate the team’s performance on both the domestic and international stages.

The New Management Team

Vrancken is not coming to Tynecastle alone. He is bringing along two experienced assistants, Tim Smolders and Cederique Tulleners both of whom have extensive coaching backgrounds. Smolders, 45, has worked with top clubs like Stade de Reims, Schalke and Union Saint-Gilloise while Tulleners, 35, has coached in various capacities across Europe and Asia, including stints in Dubai, China and with the Lithuania under-19 and under-21 teams.

The new management team was identified through Hearts’ recruitment partner, Jamestown Analytics and selected after a thorough interview process conducted by sporting director Graeme Jones and club chairman Calum Paterson. With Vrancken at the helm and Smolders and Tulleners supporting him, Hearts are poised to build a strong and cohesive coaching staff that can drive the team forward.

New Signings Boost Hearts’ Squad

In addition to the new management team, Hearts have also announced the signings of two exciting French players, Sabri Guendouz and Tom Renaud. Guendouz, a 26-year-old exciting, direct attacker joins from Beerschot for a fee of £850,000 and has signed a three-year contract. He expressed his confidence and readiness for the new challenge, stating, “This is a big step in my small career but I’m not scared. I am very confident in myself and the club and I’m very ready for this step.

Renaud, a 25-year-old multitalented holding midfielder, joins Hearts after his contract with Versailles expired. Known for his aggression, technical nous, and varied passing range Renaud is eager to test himself at a higher level. He joins a growing list of new signings, including wingers Josh McPake and Calvin Miller defenders MJ Kamson-Kamara and Malachi Fagan-Walcott and forwards Amadou Ba-Sy and Guendouz.

The new signings, combined with the experienced coaching staff, are set to strengthen Hearts’ squad and prepare them for the challenges ahead. As the team gears up for their first competitive match under Vrancken, the future looks bright for Hearts Football Club.
