Role overview

As a Mega Event Officer you will provide coordinated project support across a fast-moving events programme that attracts national attention. Your daily work will include scheduling and logistics, producing briefings, and maintaining constructive relationships with partners. You will help translate strategic aims into operational plans so stakeholders stay aligned. The role demands strong organisational skills and a willingness to operate at pace while maintaining accuracy. You will also deliver administrative and secretariat duties and help the team respond to emerging priorities tied to major events and government engagement.

Key responsibilities and event focus

The post will have a specific emphasis on supporting the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes Grand Départs 2027, described as the largest free-to-spectate sporting event to be held in the UK. Responsibilities include coordinating UK Sport and DCMS representation at international meetings, organising observer and stakeholder programmes, assisting on communications activity and working closely with delivery partners to ensure operational alignment. You will support planning and on-the-ground coordination and ensure information flows clearly between delivery partners and government stakeholders.

Events to support

Your duties will span a range of high-profile projects beyond the Tour de France, offering exposure to the diversity of major sport delivery. You may be asked to prepare material for internal governance, to support event operations, or to help design engagement activity with host cities and local authorities. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, where practical coordination underpins successful outcomes. The role will also involve keeping accurate records and producing timely updates for senior colleagues.

Working relationships and collaboration

You will collaborate closely with the Mega Events Lead, colleagues across the Events Team, and external partners including DCMS, local authorities, host cities and bodies such as Grand Départ GB 2027 Ltd. The role requires diplomacy and clarity when liaising with a wide range of stakeholders. You will act as a point of contact for cross-organisational activity, helping to convene meetings, follow up actions and maintain momentum. The ability to build rapport quickly and manage competing priorities will be central to your success.

Candidate profile and how to apply

We are seeking someone who is highly organised, proactive and comfortable working within public sector or comparable partnership environments. Ideal candidates will have experience engaging with government departments or local authorities and be adept at coordinating multi-stakeholder programmes. You should communicate clearly, focus on detail, and demonstrate a practical, can‑do approach to problem solving. A passion for sport and events is essential, as is the willingness to support fast-paced delivery and to assist senior colleagues when required.
