Spectra 2025 is set to illuminate the city of Aberdeen from February 6 to February 9, transforming the winter nights into a vibrant canvas of light and creativity. Known as Scotland’s Festival of Light, this event draws thousands of visitors eager to experience breathtaking installations from renowned international artists.

Among the standout installations is Sky Castle, an enchanting interactive sound and light experience.
This installation consists of a series of inflatable arches that respond to the movements of guests, creating a unique xylophone soundscape and dynamic color changes with each step. Another exciting feature is End Over End, a massive illuminated slinky toy that brings nostalgia to life through its mesmerizing light patterns, mimicking the playful movement of the classic toy.
Festival logistics and accessibility
Spectra 2025 will kick off at PM each evening, running until 10 PM, and the best part is that the festival is completely free and does not require tickets. Visitors can simply show up and immerse themselves in the artistic displays. The main locations for this year’s installations include Marischal College, Aberdeen Art Gallery, and Union Terrace Gardens, with additional artworks scattered throughout the surrounding streets.
As part of the festival preparations, Broad Street will be closed to traffic from February 2 to February 11, while other streets will experience temporary closures during specific hours from February 6 to February 9. Although there is no dedicated event parking, all city-center car parks will remain operational, except for Harriet Street and Marischal College car parks, which will be closed from 4 PM to 11 PM. Visitors are advised to plan their travel accordingly to ensure a smooth experience.
