In a dazzling ceremony held at Aberdeen’s P&J Live, Hydro Group was awarded the prestigious title of Business of the Year at the Northern Star Business Awards 2025. This annual event, organized by the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) in collaboration with Brodies, recognizes businesses that significantly contribute to the economic landscape of the north-east.

Celebrating local excellence

Nearly 900 attendees gathered to celebrate the achievements of local enterprises, with TV personality Edith Bowman serving as the evening’s host. The awards ceremony featured 15 categories, honoring both businesses and individuals who have made a positive impact in their respective fields.

Hydro Group, a leader in subsea connectivity solutions, has been a cornerstone of the engineering sector for over 40 years, employing a dedicated team of 113 staff members.

Resilience in challenging times

Despite facing global supply chain disruptions, Hydro Group has demonstrated remarkable resilience. The company has effectively utilized strategic planning and robust forecasting to ensure customer satisfaction while minimizing price fluctuations. Their state-of-the-art facility in Aberdeen’s Energy Park allows them to cater to a diverse array of high-profile clients worldwide, solidifying their reputation as a global leader in their industry.

Recognizing outstanding contributions

AGCC chief executive Russell Borthwick emphasized the importance of the Northern Star Awards in showcasing the region’s potential as a vibrant place to live, work, and invest. He expressed his admiration for all finalists, stating, “All of our finalists deserve the recognition they have received, and on behalf of the chamber, I want to say a huge congratulations to our winners.” The evening also honored Jeanette Forbes, a prominent businesswoman, with the Regional Contribution Award for her entrepreneurial journey and her impact on the local economy.

Forbes, who founded her IT company PCL Group from her dining room in 2000, has expanded her business ventures to include a wine bar and a Mediterranean restaurant, demonstrating her commitment to growth and innovation. Her story is a testament to the spirit of entrepreneurship that the Northern Star Awards aim to celebrate.
