Thainstone Specialist Auctions showcases impressive classic cars and trucks

Topics covered
Thainstone Centre, located near Inverurie, is not just a hub for livestock auctions; it has also become a notable venue for classic and collectible vehicle sales. Recently, Thainstone Specialist Auctions (TSA), a division of ANM Group, conducted a timed online auction that attracted a wide array of classic car enthusiasts and collectors.
Impressive sales figures for classic cars
The auction featured several remarkable vehicles, with standout sales that captured the attention of bidders across the UK. A 2001 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Auto emerged as the top seller, fetching an impressive £16,750.
This vehicle, reminiscent of the iconic cars driven by the fictional secret agent James Bond, had a mere 30,247 miles on the odometer, showcasing its excellent condition despite its age.
Another highlight was a vintage 1964 Ford Thames Trader truck, which sold for £10,750, demonstrating the enduring appeal of classic commercial vehicles. Additionally, a 1962 Ford Zephyr attracted considerable interest, ultimately selling for £9,400. The auction also featured a 2000 Bentley Arnage Red Label Auto, which went for £8,000, and a 2003 Mini Cooper with only 27,742 miles, which sold for £3,500.
Strong demand for quality classics
Neil Simpson, head of business development and strategy at TSA, noted the strong interest from buyers, particularly in the north-east of England. He stated, “Interest from across the UK and a strong presence of buyers in the north-east highlights continued demand for good quality, clean classics.” The auction was notably successful, with all but one lot sold, many exceeding their reserve prices.
Simpson emphasized the effectiveness of their online bidding platform and marketing strategies in reaching the right audience, contributing to the auction’s success. This reflects a growing trend in the auction industry, where online platforms are becoming increasingly vital for connecting sellers with buyers.
Diversification of ANM Group’s offerings
ANM Group, the parent organization of TSA, is one of Scotland’s largest producer-owned cooperatives, traditionally known for its livestock auctions. However, in recent years, the group has diversified its operations significantly. Beyond livestock, ANM now encompasses a wide range of business activities, including plant, machinery, and equipment auctions, as well as rural and commercial property interests.
This diversification strategy has allowed ANM to adapt to changing market demands and expand its reach within the auction industry. Regular online vehicle auctions are now held bi-weekly on Thursday evenings, further solidifying Thainstone Centre’s reputation as a premier auction venue for both livestock and classic vehicles.
