Aberdeen fans joyfully celebrate their team's Scottish Cup final in the sunny Tenerife.

This weekend, the vibrant atmosphere of Tenerife will be filled with the spirit of Scottish football as two Aberdeen supporters’ clubs, the Tenerife Dons and the Zizzi Dons, come together to celebrate the Scottish Cup final against Celtic. The bars, located just a short distance from each other, are set to host a series of exciting events for fans eager to support their team from afar.

Special guests and festivities at Zizzi’s Bar

At Zizzi’s Bar, fans will be treated to a special appearance by Aberdeen legend Joe Harper, who is set to join supporters in watching the highly anticipated match. Known for his remarkable record of 199 goals for the club, Harper’s presence is expected to draw a large crowd of Dandies on the island.

The bar will feature shirt giveaways, sweepstakes, and complimentary shots for attendees, creating an electrifying atmosphere for the game.

Despite his legendary status, Harper remains realistic about Aberdeen’s chances against the formidable Celtic team. “I’d be lying if I said I thought we would win, but you never know,” he remarked, recalling the underdog spirit from his own playing days. “Back in 1970 when we played Celtic in the final, no one gave us a chance, and we were totally written off.” His nostalgic memories serve as a reminder that anything can happen in football.

A thriving community at Victory Bar

Meanwhile, the Victory Bar, home to the original Tenerife supporters club, the Tenerife Dons, is also gearing up for a fantastic day. Since relocating in March, the bar has quickly become a popular spot for fans. Founding member Martyn Mackie expressed enthusiasm about the club’s new home, stating, “We’ve had a great response so far. It’s proving really popular.” The sunny location not only enhances the viewing experience for football fans but also caters to those accompanying them, ensuring everyone enjoys the day.

Victory Bar has planned a series of activities, including a goal sweepstake and fun for children, making it a family-friendly event. “There will be free shots for everyone, given it’s the Cup Final,” Mackie added, highlighting the celebratory nature of the occasion. The bar will also sell new Tenerife Dons T-shirts and continue its efforts to raise funds for the community, having already collected over £8,000 this season.

Community spirit and camaraderie

The camaraderie among Aberdeen supporters in Tenerife is palpable, with many fans traveling back home for the match while others remain to support their team from the island. The events at both Zizzi’s and Victory Bar reflect the strong community spirit that unites fans, regardless of their location. As the match approaches, the excitement builds, and both bars are expected to be filled with passionate supporters, ready to cheer on their team.

Whether it’s a thrilling victory or a disappointing defeat, the atmosphere in Tenerife promises to be unforgettable. As Joe Harper aptly put it, “Tenerife is definitely a happy place for me.” With the sun shining and friends gathered, the spirit of Aberdeen football will shine brightly this weekend.
