Originally hailing from a Victorian house in Norfolk, the couple sought a change that would accommodate their work commitments while enhancing their lifestyle.
Their search led them to Tomatin, a tranquil village that offers a perfect blend of rural charm and proximity to Inverness. Using property websites like Rightmove, they discovered Drovers House, which captivated them with its breathtaking views of the Monadhliath Mountains. Despite the less-than-ideal winter weather during their first visit, the sight of a stately stag and a white hare added an unexpected touch of magic to their experience.
Transforming a modern space
Upon moving in on Valentine’s Day 2018, Maureen and Tim embraced the opportunity to personalize their relatively new home. With spacious open-plan living areas and a bright atmosphere, Drovers House provided a perfect canvas for their renovations. They undertook various projects, including upgrading the kitchen and bathrooms, and even added a studio apartment that now serves as a successful holiday let.
One of their most significant undertakings was a full landscaping project completed in 2021. The garden now features a stunning fountain, illuminated raised beds, and a unique Cairn filled with heathers and lavender. Additionally, they constructed a ‘man cave’ workshop and a garden room to enjoy the breathtaking views year-round. In a bid to contribute to climate change efforts, they installed solar panels in 2023, allowing them to enjoy substantial savings on energy bills.

Interior design posed its own challenges, as the couple had a mix of traditional furniture that needed to blend with their modern aesthetic. Maureen found joy in combining old and new styles, resulting in an eclectic mix that reflects their personalities.
