Emma Watson against the “Anti-Trans” tweet by JK Rowling

On Wednesday, Emma added in a passionate tweet : “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are. I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”

It came up after the statement made by the 54-year-old Harry Potter author and in response she has come out in support of the transgender community. JK Rowling denied that her tweet was aimed at those who have transitioned, the tweet was condemned for his perceived nature.

JK Rowling defends his opinion

Presumption about JK Rowling’s “anti-trans” tweet are based on her reply to an opinion piece on Devex. They debated that periods aren’t exclusive to women and that transgender men can also menstruate. She also added on her tweet that ‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

For this reason, it was roundly considered that JK was implying “women” at the end of her tweet. She also keep on the discourse via tweet which make this issue worst, such as “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased.”

Another tweet about JK Rowling’s “anti-trans” tweet is “I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.”

After that, JK wrote to defend and confirm that she wasn’t transphobic by explaining that “the idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women – ie, to male violence – ‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences – is a nonsense.”
