Morricone was awarded the Academy Award for his career in 2007. He thanked the Academy: “I want to thank the Academy for this honor it gave me, by giving me this coveted award, but I also want to thank all those who wanted this award for me strongly, and felt deeply to grant it to me. Actually, I also want to thank my directors, who called me with their trust, to write music in their films. I really would not be here if not for them. My thoughts also go to all the artists who deserved this award and who did not. I wish him well in the near future.”
