Illegal immigrants to get free Covid vaccines in UK

Free covid vaccines for immigrants in UK

The UK government has stated that all illegal immigrants will be able to receive Covid vaccines. Without being subjected to status checks.

Illegal immigrants will receive a vaccine

Anyone in the UK can register with local doctors and get access to free health care, regardless of immigration status in the country.

There is no chance that illegal immigrants will be deported.

A spokeswoman for the government said: “Coronavirus vaccines will be offered to everyone living in the UK free of charge, regardless of immigration status.”.

The health ministry has ordered the National Health Service (NHS) and the interior ministry, that people who turn up for testing or treatment, including vaccination, should not be subjected to any immigration checks.

The government stated: “Those registered with a GP (general practitioner) are being contacted at the earliest opportunity and we are working closely with partners and external organisations to contact those who are not registered with a GP to ensure they are also offered the vaccine.”

The announcement comes at a time in which the UK is having difficulties containing Covid. Especially after the identification of new strains.

The UK was one of the first countries to roll out a mass vaccination programme for its citizens and has vaccinated over 11 million people so far. However, there are still fears that the government will not be able to meet its target of vaccinating the 15 million most vulnerable people by the end of this week. At the moment, the UK is only using the Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca-Oxford Covid vaccines.

The government is urging undocumented immigrants to get registered with their local doctors. And get checked, treated, and vaccinated against Covid. While it is not yet fully known how many undocumented people are residing in the country, the figure is being estimated to be circa 1.3 million.
