Details of the Incident
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and fire crews, rushed to the scene located between junction 32 (Holywell) and junction 33 (Northop) shortly after the accident was reported. The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they received a call at approximately 11:13 AM regarding a road traffic collision on the eastbound carriageway.
A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service stated, “We sent two emergency ambulances, an operations manager, and a Cymru High Acuity Response Unit to the scene. Four patients were conveyed to hospital by road for further treatment.” This response underscores the seriousness of the situation, highlighting the immediate medical attention required for those involved.
Emergency Response and Investigation
North Wales Police reported receiving notification of a single-vehicle collision shortly before 11 AM. Officers, alongside the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene to manage the incident and ensure the safety of other road users. A police spokesperson confirmed, “One lane of the A55 was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, and the vehicle was recovered. Four people were taken to hospital, including one with serious injuries. The road fully reopened at around 1:30 PM.”
The Wales Air Ambulance also played a critical role in the response. A representative confirmed, “I can confirm the Wales Air Ambulance attended an incident in that region today. Traffic Disruptions and Additional Incidents
In addition to the primary incident, traffic chaos was exacerbated by a secondary multi-vehicle collision near Caerwys. According to the Inrix traffic monitoring system, this occurred “within the queues” caused by the initial crash, further complicating the situation for motorists in the area. The series of accidents on this heavily trafficked route serves as a reminder of the potential dangers present on busy roads.
As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collisions, they urge drivers to exercise caution and remain updated on traffic conditions. The events of Thursday serve as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of road travel and the importance of quick emergency response to mitigate injuries and restore safety on the roads.
