Topics covered
The upcoming annual conference hosted by the Labour Market Partnership (LMP) in Armagh City, Banbridge, and Craigavon will take place on Thursday, November 6, from 9 am to 1:30 pm at the Craigavon Civic Centre. The event aims to unite educators, employers, and policymakers focused on enhancing career prospects and employability within the borough and its surrounding areas.
This year’s theme, ‘Educate, empower, employ’, aligns with the recent unveiling of the 2025-2028 Careers Action Plan. This collaborative effort between the Department for Education and the Department for the Economy seeks to redefine the landscape of career education, skills enhancement, and employment support.
Focus on careers education
With a renewed emphasis on careers education and creating inclusive pathways, the ‘Educate, empower, employ’ conference represents a commitment to establishing a more integrated and inclusive career ecosystem throughout the borough. Attendees will learn how educational institutions and training organizations are preparing young individuals for the workforce.
Inclusive practices in education
The conference will also explore inclusive practices aimed at unlocking the potential of all individuals. Local employers will share insights regarding the skills they require and the emerging talent they seek. This engagement bridges the gap between education and the job market, ensuring that young people are equipped to meet the demands of an evolving workforce.
Networking and collaboration opportunities
Participants will have the chance to connect with a diverse group of stakeholders, including educators, employers, and policymakers. These interactions will facilitate the sharing of valuable insights and the establishment of partnerships that support individuals in their educational and employment journeys.
Attendance at the conference is free, but due to limited space, early registration is encouraged. Interested individuals can find further details and register by visiting www.armaghbanbridgecraigavon.gov.uk/lmp.
Additional career opportunities in Antrim and Newtownabbey
In a parallel initiative, the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, in collaboration with the Department for Communities, is organizing a jobs and careers fair on Friday, October 10, at the Antrim Forum. The fair will run from 11 am to 2 pm, featuring a special session dedicated to Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.
Exploring diverse career pathways
With over 80 employers and support organizations in attendance, this event promises to provide attendees with a wealth of information regarding employment opportunities and apprenticeships across sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and retail. Participants will gain insights into the skills and qualifications necessary for potential job roles, and will have the chance to connect with organizations that can help them acquire the required experience.
Employee ownership and its rising popularity
In a related initiative, Employee Ownership Ireland is hosting a series of autumn roadshows aimed at business leaders interested in the increasing trend of employee ownership in Northern Ireland. Titled ‘Discover the rise of employee ownership’, this seminar will take place on Wednesday, October 15, at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh.
Led by former Tyrone GAA manager and solicitor Fergal Logan, attendees will explore the advantages of transitioning to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) framework. Discussions will cover how this model can facilitate succession planning, inject wealth into local economies, and secure jobs, ensuring that businesses remain anchored in their communities.
