Their journey was marked by challenges, including a decade-long wait for asylum, but with support from organizations like TERN, they launched their business, winning a £10,000 micro-grant that enabled them to expand into festivals and markets.

Another notable entrepreneur, Rahaf Allymoni, fled Syria and navigated a challenging path to establish Daffee, a coffee alternative made from upcycled date seeds. With assistance from the REN network, her product is now available in over 700 stores across Europe. Rahaf’s story exemplifies the power of support systems in helping refugees turn their ideas into viable businesses.
Fatma Al-Baiti’s journey further illustrates the transformative impact of entrepreneurship. After leaving Yemen to pursue a master’s degree in social entrepreneurship, she faced the reality of becoming a refugee as war erupted in her home country. Through her work with Your ECHO, a non-profit organization supporting Yemeni youth, Fatma has made significant contributions to her community while navigating her own challenges.
Building a supportive ecosystem
The REN network is crucial in providing resources and support for refugee entrepreneurs, offering guidance on business development, legal assistance, and funding opportunities. Data from the network indicates that more than 13,000 refugee-founded businesses have been launched across 90 organizations in 17 countries. Impressively, approximately 60% of these businesses remain operational after three years, indicating a strong survival rate comparable to mainstream small businesses.
