In a significant achievement for the tech landscape in Ireland, StormHarvester, a software company based in Belfast, has been named the fastest-growing technology firm in the country during the prestigious Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards. The event took place at the Mansion House in Dublin, celebrating the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit driving the sector forward.
Founded over a decade ago, StormHarvester introduced an AI-driven anomaly detection system in 2019. This groundbreaking solution processes data from thousands of sensors, enabling wastewater utilities to anticipate and address challenges such as flooding and pollution. This positions the company at the forefront of environmental management.
Staggering growth and recognition
Since its inception, StormHarvester has experienced extraordinary growth, achieving a remarkable 2,910% increase in revenue over the past four years, which qualified the firm for the Fast 50 Awards. This esteemed program, now in its 26th year, serves as a benchmark for technology excellence in Ireland, showcasing companies that exhibit sustainable growth and innovation.
Brian Moloney, the founder and CEO of StormHarvester, expressed pride in the company’s accomplishments: “Reaching the pinnacle of Deloitte’s Fast 50 ranking is an incredibly rewarding moment for everyone at StormHarvester. What began as a simple idea in Australia has transformed into a thriving business in Belfast, continuously advancing our mission to tackle flooding issues.”
A year of transformation
Over the past year, the company has successfully secured funding that has allowed it to double its workforce, further fueling its expansion plans. Moloney noted, “This growth will pave the way for even more exciting opportunities in Ireland and beyond.” The recognition from the Deloitte Fast 50 Awards provides a moment for the team to reflect on their journey and future ambitions.
Northern Ireland’s tech landscape shines
StormHarvester’s achievement is particularly significant as it marks the first time in 25 years that a company from Northern Ireland has claimed the top position in the Fast 50 rankings. The previous winner was Newry-based First Derivatives. This year’s list also featured nine other Northern Irish firms, including Fibrus, Halo Technologies, and TeamFeePay, highlighting the region’s growing prominence in the tech industry.
The combined achievements of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 winners amounted to an impressive €1.76 billion in total annual revenues. The average growth rate among these companies stood at 442%, showcasing not only their success but also the potential for future expansion. With over 7,500 employees across the ranked firms, it is clear that the local tech sector is thriving.
Celebrating innovation
Aisléan Nicholson, a partner at Deloitte and lead for the Fast 50 in Belfast, emphasized the importance of recognizing innovation within the technology sector. “The Technology Fast 50 highlights companies that demonstrate sustainable revenue growth and an ability to scale globally,” she remarked. “Congratulations to all the firms that have earned their place this year, especially to StormHarvester for being the second company from Northern Ireland to achieve this honor since the program’s inception.”
Awards and achievements
Alongside the announcement of the Fast 50 rankings, the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards also featured various categories recognizing outstanding contributions within the tech space. Notably, Alchemy, based in Derry, secured the Impact Award in partnership with Meta, which acknowledges companies that have made significant strides in their fields over the past year.
As Northern Ireland continues to solidify its reputation as a hub for innovative technology, the accomplishments of companies like StormHarvester serve as a testament to the talent, creativity, and vision propelling the local tech sector into the future.
