Unlock Your Athletic Potential at Westminster School: Experience a Wide Variety of Sports Activities and Expert Coaching.

Topics covered
At Westminster School, the sports initiative known as Station serves as a vital component of student life, offering over 25 sporting disciplines throughout the academic year. Spanning the Play (winter), Lent (spring), and Election (summer) terms, students have the distinctive opportunity to select their preferred sports, cultivating a personalized and enriching experience.
The schedule designates two afternoons each week, specifically Tuesdays and Thursdays, for Station activities. Students frequently engage in additional sessions focused on fitness training, matches, and competitive events. This flexible approach ensures that every student can develop their athletic interests and abilities.
Facilities that foster excellence
Located in central London, Westminster enjoys ample outdoor space, including the esteemed playing fields at Vincent Square. The school’s main site features several fives courts and a modern Sports Centre, which encompasses over 6,000m² of indoor space, including a multi-use movement studio, a rowing training suite, and dedicated areas for sports such as indoor cricket, basketball, netball, and volleyball.
Moreover, the sports center boasts two climbing walls, a dojo for martial arts, and courts for badminton and five-a-side football. Unique to Westminster, the shooting gallery and the Boat Club located at Putney further enhance the sporting experiences available to our students.
Professional coaching and remarkable achievements
The involvement of seasoned professionals significantly enriches the sports program. Many coaches have competed internationally, including in prestigious events like the Olympic Games, providing students with invaluable guidance. This expertise plays a crucial role in preparing students for local, national, and international competitions, often resulting in notable achievements.
Recent sporting milestones
One of the standout accomplishments was the historic signing of professional cricket contracts by two students, marking a first for Westminster. One player represented England U19s against Bangladesh U19s and played for Middlesex CCC in prominent tournaments, while the other joined Northants CCC, participating in the County Championship and the Metro Bank One Day Cup. Both students have secured contract extensions until 2027, demonstrating their potential and commitment.
In rowing, students achieved impressive results at the National Schools Regatta, winning gold and bronze medals in the J15 Fours and securing bronze in the J16 category. Additionally, our athletes contributed to England’s successes in the Junior Fours and Junior Eights at the Home International Regatta, and at the Coupe de Jeunesse in Austria, two students were part of the gold medal-winning GBR Coxless Fours crew. Notably, Westminster rowers have previously won gold and silver medals at the World Junior Championships.
Excellence in fencing and judo
Westminster’s fencing team excelled by retaining the U15 Foil title at the British Schools Team Championships, having first claimed it in the same year. Individual achievements at the Public Schools Fencing Championships included a Girls’ Senior Epee title and commendable placements in the Boys’ Junior Foil and Junior Epee categories. Our Judokas have continued to excel, with remarkable performances at the HMC Independent Schools’ Tournament, where they secured three golds, two silvers, and two bronzes while also retaining The Team Trophy.
Life skills through sport
Beyond the physical benefits of regular exercise, Westminster’s Station program promotes the development of essential life skills. Students acquire valuable lessons in time management, determination, and teamwork, enhancing their ability to navigate both victory and defeat with grace. These experiences contribute to their overall personal growth and prepare them for future challenges.
Westminster’s commitment to a diverse sports program is evident in the numerous opportunities it provides for student engagement, skill development, and competitive success. The combination of expert coaching and exceptional facilities creates an environment where young athletes can thrive and prepare for their future endeavors.
