Revolutionary 2027 Festival in Liverpool to Merge Sports and Arts

Experience the dynamic intersection of sports and arts at the innovative Liverpool Festival 2027.

In May 2027, Liverpool’s historic waterfront will undergo a significant transformation, becoming a vibrant hub for inclusive sports and cultural festivities. This unique festival, organized by the newly established UKEL, aims to celebrate diversity and creativity by bringing together international athletes and artists.

The event promotes a message of unity and collaboration.

The vision behind the festival

This festival’s inception aligns with the objectives outlined in UK Sport’s major events strategy, known as Making Live Sport Matter. This initiative seeks to elevate elite athletic competition while driving social change across Liverpool.

In collaboration with Arts Council England, the festival will highlight the works of prominent disabled and neurodivergent artists, ensuring that artistic expression remains at the heart of the event.

Key components of the event

Throughout the festival week, attendees can expect an exhilarating lineup featuring four international sporting competitions, all strategically scheduled before the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.

This event will not only celebrate athletic prowess but also incorporate a rich cultural program led by artists from the deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent communities. Their work will be showcased through various performances, exhibitions, and interactive experiences, providing a platform for diverse perspectives to be shared.

Strategic partnerships and community involvement

Collaboration underpins the festival’s success, with Liverpool City Council essential to its organization. The festival will take place in the vibrant city, utilizing notable venues such as the M&S Bank Arena, Exhibition Centre Liverpool, and the Pier Head. To enhance the event’s effectiveness, a specialized Stakeholder Board is being established. This board will include representatives from various organizations, such as Liverpool City Council, UK Sport, Arts Council England, and Paralympics GB, along with independent members.

Creative leadership and cultural impact

The festival will also see the recruitment of a Creative Producer tasked with steering the artistic vision of the cultural program. As a member of the Stakeholder Board, this individual will be responsible for crafting an inclusive experience that intertwines both sport and culture. Their goal will be to enhance opportunities for representation and create lasting social impacts for the disabled community.

Statements from key stakeholders

Councillor Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, expressed enthusiasm about the festival: “We are thrilled to host such a significant and empowering event in our city—bringing together athletes, artists, and audiences in a genuinely accessible and inclusive manner.” He emphasized the festival’s innovative nature and its potential to boost visibility and opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Esther Britten MBE, Head of Events and External Affairs at UK Sport, expressed her enthusiasm for the festival’s potential impact. “This is a thrilling moment for para sports in the UK. We are committed to creating an event that combines elite competition with cultural celebrations, providing a powerful platform to honor Paralympic athletes and build momentum leading up to LA 2028.”

Jen Cleary, Director North West and Combined Arts at Arts Council England, reinforced this sentiment, stating, “We’re excited to collaborate on this festival of unity, sport, and creativity, allowing festival-goers to experience extraordinary artistic works alongside excellence in para sports.”

Festival preparations continue

As preparations for this groundbreaking festival proceed, UKEL is dedicated to providing an exceptional experience for both participants and spectators. The event aims to highlight the synergy between sports and arts, further solidifying Liverpool’s role as a vibrant host city. With a skilled team and robust partnerships, the festival seeks to establish a new benchmark for inclusive events, ultimately fostering a more promising future for the disabled community.
