A dramatic incident in Lisburn saw two women arrested after a fire was set at an apartment building on Saturday evening.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has arrested two women in connection with a suspected arson attack at an apartment building in Lisburn. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, July 25, began with reports of the women threatening to break windows before a fire was discovered at the rear of the property.
The 34-year-old and 38-year-old women were initially detained on suspicion of threats to damage property and attempted criminal damage. However, their arrests were expanded following the discovery of the fire, with both facing additional charges related to the blaze.
The sequence of events in Gregg Street
According to PSNI Detective Inspector Ryan, officers received a report at approximately 4:35pm about two women outside an apartment building in the Gregg Street area who were threatening to break the windows.
Upon arrival, police arrested the two women and took them into custody.
While the initial investigation focused on the threats made to the property, the situation escalated when nearby residents alerted police to a fire at the rear of the apartment building. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service quickly responded to extinguish the blaze, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Additional charges and ongoing investigation
The 34-year-old woman was further arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life with intentpossession of a Class C controlled drug and burglary. The 38-year-old woman, who reportedly resisted police and kicked out at officers, faces additional charges including criminal damagepossessing an article with a blade or point in a public place and resisting police.
Both women remained in police custody as of Sunday, with the investigation ongoing. Detective Inspector Ryan appealed to the public for any information or footage that might assist the enquiry, encouraging witnesses to contact the PSNI or Crimestoppers anonymously.
