Taking a year, a couple of months, or even a week out to travel in South East Asia is an incredible and rewarding endeavour. Time restrains may render travelling by train and bus a difficult option, but for those yearning for an authentic and financially viable option, buses, trains and taxis such as tuk tuks are definitely the transport options of choice.

Getting around by plane can cost hundreds of pounds and is less kind to the environment. Not only that, thousands of miles above the stunning scenery passengers miss a host of views that are only gained by travelling through on land.

Buses can be slow, unreliable and packed to the rafters with goods such as bags of rice, and sometimes even chickens, but the sights are unbeatable and the prices are incredibly cheap.

Travellers can easily find their way up the length of Vietnam by a number of sleeper trains for less than £70.

These transport options also offer opportunities to talk to locals and fellow travellers thus giving a more fulfilling experience during time spent in South East Asia. Airplanes may offer comfort and reliability, but they take away the heart of what travelling is all about, meeting new people and experiencing completely different lifestyles.
