WSBK Misano: Carlos Checa on pace in FP1

If at Silverstone MotoGP lap times weren’t even close, there was slightly a different story in FP1 at the Misano circuit.
Points leader Carlos Checa started the weekend by bagging the top spot, but he was tightly tailed by Max Biaggi who tested at Misano earlier last month and unofficially broke the track record and was just 0.

011s from the Althea Ducati rider.
Third went to Troy Corser and his BMW machine, while team mate Leon Haslam was fourth, both taking advantage of the fact that they too tested at Misano last month.
Leon Camier took the fifth spot and the last rider to be within a second of Checa’s best lap.

Ayrton Badovini was sixth despite a tumble at the Tramonto turn was sixth.
Michel Fabrizio was seventh and followed by the Effenbert Ducati duo Sylvain Guintoli and Jakub Smrz in eighth and ninth respectively.
Marco Melandri closed out the top ten, coming to grips with a track he previously raced on only with a MotoGP bike, while team mate Eugene Laverty was just 17th.
Chris Vermeulen returning to track after missing the Miller Motorsports Park round was 19th, while Lorenzo Lanzi called in to replace injured James Toseland at Misano and Aragon, was 22nd behind the two CIV wildcard riders Alex Polita and Matteo Baiocco.
