Aqara, a name synonymous with smart home innovation, is making significant strides in the smart lighting sector. Known for its comprehensive range of smart sensors, Aqara is now venturing into smart lighting, showcasing a suite of products that promise to revolutionize home illumination.
This expansion comes as part of Aqara’s broader strategy to dominate the smart home market, leveraging its strong relationship with Xiaomi and a robust product portfolio.
The company’s latest offerings, unveiled at the IFA 2026, include a variety of smart lighting solutions designed to integrate seamlessly with existing Aqara sensors.
These products are not just about lighting; they represent a leap forward in smart home technology, combining aesthetics with advanced functionality. Aqara’s move into smart lighting is a bold step that positions the brand as a formidable competitor in the market.
Aqara’s Smart Lighting Lineup
Aqara’s foray into smart lighting is impressive, with a range of products designed to cater to different lighting needs. The lineup includes the Floor Lamp T1 a tall, rod-shaped light with a wall-wash effect and 18 controllable zones. This lamp supports a wide color temperature range from 2000K to 9000K and can produce up to 1,000 lumens of brightness. The LED Downlight T2 is another notable addition, featuring a thin profile ideal for low ceilings or retrofitting. It supports 16 million colors and the same wide color temperature range.
The Trimmable LED Strip T2 is designed for under-cabinet and shelf lighting, delivering even light without visible hotspots. It has 108 LEDs per meter and 18 controllable zones every three meters, allowing for smooth color gradients. For outdoor use, Aqara introduced the Outdoor String Lights H1 which are weatherproof and feature individually controllable zones. These lights can adjust based on the time of day, environment, and triggers from other smart home devices.
Completing the lineup is the Permanent Outdoor Lights H1 designed for year-round use. These lights feature independently controlled LEDs and can be extended or cut to fit any roofline. All these products are compatible with Thread and Zigbee ensuring seamless integration with other smart home devices.
Integration with Aqara Sensors
Aqara’s smart lighting products are designed to work effortlessly with its existing range of sensors. This integration is a key differentiator for Aqara, as it allows users to create custom routines and automation scenarios. For instance, a door sensor that alerts you when a door is opened can now change the color of an Aqara light or turn on an entry light to welcome someone home. Overhead lights can brighten when people enter the room, detected by Aqara’s presence sensor.
Aqara switches can control indoor or outdoor lights with custom routines at a touch. This level of integration is made possible by Aqara’s use of AI-driven spatial intelligence which enables the lighting products to interact with sensors in innovative ways. The company’s commitment to open standards like Matter ensures that these products can work with a wide range of smart home platforms, including AlexaGoogle Home and Apple Home.
Aqara’s Market Strategy and Future Prospects
Aqara’s expansion into smart lighting is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position in the global smart home market. The company has already made significant inroads in Europe and the Middle East, with a store on Amazon Belgium and a 1,200 square foot showroom in Abu Dhabi. This global expansion is supported by Aqara’s strong product portfolio, which includes over 2,200 products across around 50 categories.
The company’s relationship with Xiaomi is a crucial factor in its success. Xiaomi is one of Lumi’s biggest customers, contributing some 30% to the company’s annual revenue. This partnership, facilitated by Lin Zhen, president of Lumi and a former executive at Xiaomi, has been instrumental in Aqara’s growth. With Xiaomi owning nearly 8% of Lumi’s shares, the two companies are closely aligned in their strategic goals.
Aqara’s future looks promising, with the company continuing to innovate and expand its product range. The introduction of smart lighting products is a significant step forward, and the company’s commitment to open standards and seamless integration with other smart home devices positions it as a leader in the market. As Aqara continues to grow, it is likely to become an even more prominent player in the smart home industry.
