Find out which Sussex Sport classes suit you, how membership affects cost, and how to reserve a place on sessions from Zumba to aerial circus

Topics covered
The Sussex Sport programme offers a wide spectrum of group activities ranging from cardio-driven sessions like Indoor Group Cycling to skill-based classes such as aerial circus and self-defence. Whether you prefer a calming slow flow yoga class or a high-energy metabolic training workout, the timetable covers options for varied fitness levels and aims.
This article explains membership inclusions, booking procedures and highlights the weekly class schedule so you can plan your fitness routine effectively.
Membership tiers determine whether classes are included or payable. Gold and Silver members receive complimentary access to on-site in-person classes while Bronze members and non-members can use the pay-per-class option.
For pay-and-play pricing details, a downloadable PDF is available. For immediate questions or help with bookings, contact the Sport Centre by phone at 01273 678228.
How membership and booking work
All in-person classes are free for Gold and Silver members, removing the need to pay individually.
If you are a Bronze member or a non-member, you can still attend by choosing the pay-and-play route and consulting the published price list. Spaces can be checked in real time via the live system: this shows available slots for both classes and fitness room visits so you can plan reliably before you arrive.
To reserve a place, you can book online through the live system or call 01273 678228. Booking early is recommended for popular classes such as Zumba or Indoor Group Cycling. The live availability tool helps avoid disappointment and lets you see how many spots remain. Always check specific class notes — for example, some aerial classes request clothing without zips and the removal of jewellery for safety.
Weekly timetable overview
The schedule runs with a variety of sessions across the week. Below are the main classes and their recurring time slots. Start and end dates are shown exactly as published so you can identify when each block of classes runs.
Monday highlights
Monday lunchtime features a trio of popular sessions: Zumba (12.05pm–12.50pm) led by Gemma C in Sport Centre Hall Two, beginning 26 January and ending 16 March (note: on 16 February this Zumba session will be in Hall 1). Simultaneously there is Indoor Group Cycling (12.05pm–12.50pm) in the Dance Studio and a Pilates class with Gareth (12.05pm–12.50pm) in Active Arches. Later classes include Yoga (1.05pm–1.50pm) with Megan and an afternoon Aerial Yoga session (2.15pm–3.15pm) with Kitty. A dedicated Small group training slot (2.05pm–2.50pm) limits participation to four people for focused coaching.
Tuesday to Friday focus
Tuesday offers the creative Flowetic class at 9.15am, beginner and improver aerial circus at 10am and 11am, plus a lunchtime Strength and core session (12.05pm–12.50pm) with Gemma M. Evening classes include Indoor Group Cycling (5.05pm–5.50pm) and PiYO (6.05pm–6.50pm) which fuses Pilates and yoga elements.
Wednesday starts early with Pilates (8.05am–8.50am), continues with aerial circus blocks, midday Yoga (12.05pm–12.50pm) and a challenging Metabolic training session (12.05pm–12.55pm) that uses barbells, kettlebells and ropes for an advanced calorie-burning workout. Evening options include body conditioning and a practical self-defence class (6pm–7pm).
Thursday and Friday mirror many of the midweek offerings, with additional Pilates and evening Circuits sessions. On Friday the timetable features PiYO at 12.05pm and a further Indoor Group Cycling slot at 1.05pm followed by a high intensity circuit at 1.15pm to 2.00pm.
Class formats, equipment and special notes
Many classes are mat-based or bodyweight-focused while others require equipment: Schwinn bike setup guidance is recommended for newcomers to indoor cycling, and metabolic training assumes some familiarity with free-weight exercises. Aerial classes ask participants to avoid clothing with zips and to remove jewellery before practice for safety reasons. Staff-only sessions such as small weights workouts and slow flow yoga are clearly labelled and are intended for university staff members.
Progression and skill levels
Several activities offer beginner and improver streams (for example, aerial circus and Pilates) and instructors adapt sessions to suit mixed abilities. Small group training provides tailored progression while circuit and conditioning classes include scalable options so everyone from beginners to advanced trainees can take part.
