Harrison Ford brings Hollywood charm to Scotland
In a delightful intersection of Hollywood and Scottish culture, Harrison Ford, the iconic star known for his roles in Indiana Jones and Star Wars, recently graced the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, Scotland, for the filming of a new advertisement.
The experience was not only a significant moment for the distillery staff but also a testament to Ford’s professionalism and charisma.
Filming a unique whisky advertisement
Ford’s visit to the Highlands was part of a promotional campaign for Glenmorangie, featuring a six-part series titled Once Upon a Time in Scotland.
The advertisement showcases the stunning landscapes surrounding the distillery, including Ardross Castle and the picturesque Loch Glass. Staff members at Glenmorangie were thrilled to be part of this unique project, which highlighted not only the whisky but also the rich cultural heritage of Scotland.
Alan Duff Jnr, a production operator at the distillery, described his experience working alongside Ford as “unforgettable.” He recalled a comedic scene in the distillery warehouse where Ford’s Scottish pronunciation was humorously corrected. “I was very proud to be chosen to play opposite Harrison,” Alan shared. “He made us all feel so comfortable and encouraged me to just be myself on screen.” This sentiment was echoed by Graham Nicol, a distillery planner, who canceled his holiday to participate in the filming. “Meeting Harrison Ford was so exciting; it still doesn’t feel real,” he remarked.
Ford’s appreciation for the Glenmorangie team
Throughout the filming process, Ford expressed his admiration for the Glenmorangie team and director Joel Edgerton. He noted, “I loved working with the team at the distillery — they were all great. The whole process was full of unanticipated joys.” Ford’s ability to connect with the staff and create a relaxed atmosphere was a highlight for many involved in the project. “It’s a tribute to Glenmorangie’s sensibilities that they let us be less than totally serious,” he added, emphasizing the charm and humor that permeated the filming.
Behind the scenes and future releases
During his time in Scotland, Ford was also spotted enjoying a casual lunch at the Balintore Inn, where he took the time to chat with staff, further endearing himself to the local community. The advertisement, along with six full-length episodes and behind-the-scenes content, is set to be released online, with additional material scheduled for 2025. This collaboration not only showcases Glenmorangie’s exquisite whisky but also highlights the warmth and hospitality of Scotland, making it a memorable experience for all involved.
