According to a survey published by Mercer, Milan is one of the most expensive cities in the world, outstripping Paris, London and New York; most of the major Italian fashion brands are currently headquartered in the city, so it goes without saying that Milan attracts well off shoppers with money to spend.

Mercer’s survey covers almost 214 cities across six continents and measures the comparative cost of several items in each location, including hotels, restaurants, clothing and entertainment.
