Authorities at Dublin Airport are investigating a fatal collision on Corballis Road and are asking motorists with dash-cam footage to come forward

The early hours of Thursday 23 April 2026 brought a tragic incident on the main approach to Dublin Airport. Shortly after 00:10am, emergency services and Gardaí responded to reports that a shuttle bus had struck a pedestrian on Corballis Road, the stretch between the Airport Roundabout and the terminal.
The pedestrian, a male in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The loss has prompted a formal inquiry and public statements from both the Gardaí and the DAA, with the coroner notified and the body conveyed to the mortuary at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.
The scene remains sensitive as a technical examination is under way by specialist teams.
Local traffic was affected as authorities established measures to secure the area and facilitate the investigation. A partial road closure was put in place on the main access route into the airport, with local diversions directing vehicles away from the immediate scene.
The DAA said access to the airport continues but warned that lanes remain closed and further temporary restrictions could be introduced during the morning while investigators work. Motorists and passengers were advised to allow extra time for journeys and to follow any diversion signage or instructions from emergency personnel at the scene.
What happened on Corballis Road
Initial reports indicate the collision involved an airport shuttle bus and a pedestrian on Corballis Road just after midnight. Gardaí state the event occurred shortly after 00:10am, and as part of the inquiry they are asking the public for any digital recordings from the period between 11.45pm on Wednesday 22 and 00:15am on Thursday 23 April 2026. The request specifically covers dash-cam footage and any other camera material from nearby vehicles or private CCTV that might capture the moments before, during or after the impact. Collecting that footage is a priority for establishing an accurate timeline and clarifying the circumstances that led to this fatal road collision.
Emergency response and investigation
Emergency services, including airport police and Gardaí, attended immediately and preserved the area for a technical review. The scene has been retained for examination by Forensic Collision investigators, who will conduct a detailed inspection of vehicle positions, skid marks and any physical evidence. The coroner has been notified and the deceased was transported to the mortuary at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. As part of their investigation, Gardaí will also interview witnesses and review available camera material to reconstruct events in accordance with standard procedures for a fatal road traffic collision.
Forensic examination and preservation of evidence
The preservation of the collision site enables specialists to perform methodical analysis: measurements, photography and vehicle examinations form part of the process led by Forensic Collision investigators. These teams work to establish impact dynamics and sequence of events while minimizing contamination of the scene. The term Forensic Collision investigators refers to officers trained in reconstructing road incidents, combining evidence from physical marks, vehicle damage and witness statements. Their findings will feed into the coroner’s inquiry and any subsequent legal or administrative actions arising from the incident.
Public appeals and traffic management
Gardaí have issued a clear public appeal to anyone who was travelling in the area to come forward, and specifically to those who may hold camera evidence. Road users with dash-cam material from between 11.45pm on Wednesday 22 and 00:15am on Thursday 23 April 2026 are asked to make it available to investigators. People with information are asked to contact Ballymun Garda Station on (01) 666 4400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station. Meanwhile, the DAA expressed deep sadness at the death, confirmed it is assisting Gardaí and reiterated advice that passengers allow extra time and follow diversions as required while a limited number of lanes remain closed.
