The government is assumed to announce that England’s frontline NHS staff should get Covid vaccines by Spring today. Government sources declined to state on speculation but did not reject the reports. The sources said they supposed the movement to be declared today.
About 1.35million of 1.454million NHS workers in England have had their first jab as of October 31.
However, just over 100,000 were unvaccinated. Meanwhile, not all 100,000 of those staff work on the frontline.
It comes as a deadline for care home workers to get their second dose this Thursday. Some staff can momentarily self-certify that they have an exception. However, care chiefs have begged for the deadline to be paused with more than 100,000 vacancies already.
On the other side, the discussion on forming Covid and flu jabs necessary for “other health and care settings” in England closed on October 22. However, according to the source, Covid-19 jabs will be mandatory but flu jabs will not.
Rachel Harrison of the GMB union suggested, “Bulldozing this vaccine will increase the overwhelming staffing crisis we confront across the NHS and ambulance services.”
Chris Hopson of NHS Providers commented that he would help more staff get the jab but cautioned “patient safety” could be injured if tens of thousands of NHS staff have to go.
The final day of the Commons before a short recess is today. It means a change in vaccination rules is necessary to be made today if MP’s statement comes out.
