Wales International Louis Rees-Zammit Impresses in Training

Wales international Louis Rees-Zammit showcased his athletic prowess with a stunning try during training with the Bristol Bears. The 24-year-old winger, who recently returned from a stint in American football, is preparing for the 2025/2026 Premiership Rugby season.

His training footage, shared on Instagram, highlights his renowned speed and raises expectations for his upcoming performances.

Return to Rugby

Rees-Zammit’s return to rugby has been significant. After exploring opportunities in American football, he has re-signed with the Bristol Bears, aiming to make a notable impact.

If selected to play against the Leicester Tigers later this month, it will mark his first rugby match since the 2023 World Cup, where he faced Argentina.

The training footage illustrates Rees-Zammit’s exceptional ability to evade defenders. Positioned on the right wing, he executed a perfect chip and chased it down, leaving his opponent behind.

This skill is reminiscent of his remarkable try against Scotland during the 2021 Six Nations, which earned him the title of ‘Try of the Tournament’.

Physical Transformation and Speed

Since returning from American football, Rees-Zammit has increased his muscle mass. He reassured fans that his speed remains unchanged. In a recent interview at the Bears’ training facility, he stated, “I got up to like 105 kilos, and my playing weight in rugby was probably about 96. Over the last couple of months, I have really got myself back to about 100kg, and now that I am actually doing rugby training, I think I can get straight back down to that 96-98 kilo range, and that is probably perfect for me.”

His statistics support this claim. Rees-Zammit maintained impressive speeds, clocking in at 23 mph while weighing 105 kilos, showcasing his conditioning tailored for American football, where plays are short and explosive. In contrast, rugby demands sustained fitness due to its continuous nature.

Upcoming Season Goals

Looking ahead, Rees-Zammit aims to make a strong impression in the opening games of the Premiership season, starting with the Bears facing the Leicester Tigers on September 28 at 3:30 PM at Ashton Gate. His performance in these initial matches will be crucial as he aspires for a call-up to the Welsh national team for the autumn internationals in November.

The speedster’s ability to adapt and excel in both rugby and American football underscores his versatility and commitment. With goals set for success with the Bristol Bears and a potential return to international play, fans are eager to witness his achievements this season.
