Chief Medical Officer Ed Cetti thanked the dedicated staff and community members for their support during this challenging time.

He emphasized that while the critical incident has concluded, vigilance remains essential.

Ongoing challenges in healthcare

The hospital still faces significant activity levels, particularly with the seasonal surge in winter illnesses and the difficulties in discharging medically fit patients. Cetti noted, “Although we have moved away from critical incident status, our services continue to experience considerable strain.

We urge the public to explore alternative healthcare options for non-emergency issues.”

To reduce pressure on emergency departments, the Trust encourages residents to utilize various resources, including NHS 111, local pharmacies, and urgent treatment centers.

These alternatives can provide timely assistance for minor health issues, ensuring emergency services remain available for life-threatening situations.

“For emergencies, please reserve visits to the Emergency Department for serious conditions requiring immediate medical attention,” Cetti emphasized.

Community cooperation is essential

As the healthcare system navigates winter-related challenges, the Trust has established several measures to streamline operations and enhance patient safety, including:

  • UtilizingNHS 111for urgent health advice and support.
  • Accessing general practitioners and community services for non-urgent matters.

  • Facilitating the prompt discharge of patients ready to leave the hospital.

The hospital has also requested that visitors adhere to strict infection control measures to prevent the spread of viruses such as flu and norovirus.
