Little Wing and Little Heroes Unite for a Charitable Cause

Little Wing Partners with Little Heroes to Deliver Essential Support for Children Facing Serious Illnesses.

Little Wing partners with Little Heroes for charity initiative

In a commendable move, Little Wing, a well-known pizzeria brand, has initiated a year-long charity partnership with Little Heroes. This organization is dedicated to supporting children facing life-limiting and life-threatening conditions in Northern Ireland.

The collaboration aims to enhance both funding and awareness for the vital work undertaken by Little Heroes, particularly in support of the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children (RBHSC), the only specialist pediatric hospital in the region.

One poignant story that underscores the mission of this partnership is that of three-year-old Alex Chambers from Newtownards, Co.

Down. Alex’s life took a drastic turn when, at just 18 months old, she suffered a severe brain hemorrhage while peacefully sleeping. Following her initial treatment at the Ulster Hospital, a dedicated team of 26 medical professionals worked tirelessly to stabilize her condition.

She was then transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital for emergency surgery, where she remained in a coma for nearly a week.

Impact of Little Heroes on families

During this challenging period, Alex’s family received crucial support from the team at the pediatric wing of the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Little Heroes provided essential emotional and practical assistance, including professional counseling services, to help families navigate the overwhelming stress associated with serious childhood illnesses. Alex’s mother, Nadine Chambers, expressed profound gratitude for the support they received during their most difficult moments, stating, “Little Heroes gave our family the support and hope we needed.”

Nadine’s heartfelt reflections underscore the vital role that Little Heroes plays in the lives of families facing such challenges. She emphasized that Alex’s progress has been remarkable, and they are thankful for the charity’s efforts and the exceptional care provided by the hospital team. Little Heroes has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for families like the Chambers.

Fundraising initiatives throughout the year

This partnership will see all 11 Little Wing restaurant locations actively engaging in various fundraising activities over the next year. These initiatives will include a £1 uplift on select specials, staff-led challenges, and community events aimed at raising both awareness and funds for Little Heroes. The restaurant chain’s commitment to supporting local causes is commendable and aligns perfectly with the charity’s goals.

Upcoming events include participation in the Belfast City Marathon, an abseiling challenge at Fairhead, and various outdoor endurance challenges. Seasonal campaigns and dedicated fundraising initiatives will also be organized, particularly during the festive season. This period will see Little Heroes launch its Sparkle Season initiative, which aims to unite staff and customers in support of children and families during this special time of year.

Community involvement and support

To facilitate donations, all Little Wing restaurants will introduce Tap and Go donation points, enabling customers to easily contribute to Little Heroes during their visits. Additionally, these establishments will provide customized coloring sheets for young diners, encouraging children to learn about the charity’s mission and the vital work it carries out.

Jamie Mendez, the Operations Manager at Little Wing, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Little Heroes. He stated, “At Little Wing, we have always aimed to create a positive impact in our communities. Partnering with Little Heroes allows us to extend our support to families in need.” Mendez’s insights into Alex’s journey underscore the significant benefits such partnerships provide to children and families facing difficult circumstances.

Looking forward to a successful partnership

Tom Boyd, who oversees philanthropy and corporate relationships at Little Heroes, expressed enthusiasm regarding the recent partnership. He emphasized its importance for raising awareness and funds for the charity’s initiatives. Boyd affirmed that community support enables Little Heroes to fund essential projects at the RBHSC, such as acquiring advanced medical equipment and providing support for the parents and siblings of sick children.

Since opening in Belfast in 2009, Little Wing has grown to become one of Northern Ireland’s most beloved pizzeria brands, celebrated for its Naples-style pizzas and strong commitment to local communities. The collaboration with Little Heroes represents a significant step in their ongoing efforts to give back and positively impact the lives of those in need.

Details regarding upcoming fundraising events related to this partnership will be communicated throughout the year. These initiatives will emphasize the positive influence of community support on the lives of children and families across Northern Ireland.
