The emergency services in North Yorkshire were kept busy with a series of diverse incidents throughout the day. Firefighters from various crews responded to calls ranging from vegetation fires to animal rescuesdemonstrating their versatility and readiness.

As the morning began, crews found themselves tackling outdoor fires and vehicle incidentswhile the afternoon brought challenges such as trapped animals and ongoing fires that required sustained efforts.

Morning emergencies: fires and collisions

At 10:14crews from York and Acomb were called to a garden on North Lane where trees were ablaze, threatening a nearby shed. Upon arrival, the shed fire had been extinguished, but the trees were still burning fiercely.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to bring the situation under control.

Just under twenty minutes later, at 10:33a crew from Harrogate responded to a flooding incident in a residential property on Strawberry Dale Avenue. The water and electrics had already been isolated, allowing crews to use a light portable pump to clear the floodwater efficiently.

At 10:46a crew from Filey attended a two-vehicle collision on Primrose Valley. All individuals were safely out of the vehicles upon arrival, and the crew isolated both vehicles before leaving the scene to the police.

Midday challenges: vehicle fires and small incidents

The midday hours brought reports of vehicle fires in different locations. At 11:22a crew from Scarborough responded to a vehicle well alight on Foxholes, using a hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera, and one breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames. Simultaneously, at 11:23a crew from Helmsley tackled a similar incident on Main Street, Normanby, using a hose reel jet to put out the fire.

Meanwhile, at 11:23a crew from Harrogate was called to a bin fire on Beech Avenue. The fire was quickly extinguished using a bucket of water, and the cause was believed to be accidental.

Afternoon operations: rescues and ongoing fires

As the day progressed, firefighters faced more complex challenges. At 14:25a crew from Skipton responded to a kitten rescue on Colne and Broughton Road, Thornton in Craven. Using small tools, they removed the boxing that trapped the kitten and safely reunited it with its owner.

At 15:09a crew from Scarborough was called to a fire in the open on Eastfield. They located a smouldering area of gorse and used two knapsack sprayers and a thermal imaging camera to dampen the area and check for hotspots.

The afternoon also saw several ongoing incidents that required sustained attention. At 16:09a crew from York responded to a person stuck in a lift on Station Road. Using small tools, they safely released the individual. Simultaneously, crews from Harrogate and Ripon attended false alarm activations from fire alarms, confirming them as non-emergencies upon investigation.

Other ongoing incidents included a shed fire on Bouthwaite Drive, York, a fire in the open on Cranfield Place, York, and a cat rescue on Riverside Lane, Summerbridge, where a feline was stuck in a car engine bay.
