Cleo Exposes Scripted Moments on Channel 5’s Rich Kids Go Skint

Cleo, who appeared on the first season of Rich Kids Go Skint with her family, has come forward with allegations that certain parts of the show were not genuine.

Cleo Exposes Scripted Moments on Channel 5's Rich Kids Go Skint

The popular Channel 5 reality series Rich Kids Go Skint has faced new scrutiny following revelations from a former contestant. Cleo, who participated in the show’s inaugural season, has accused producers of staging scenes to exaggerate the economic struggles of her family.

The program, which premiered in 2018, follows young individuals from affluent backgrounds as they experience life with families living on minimal incomes. Cleo’s episode featured her mother, Anna Nichols, and three younger siblings, who hosted Chelsea resident Fergus Prutton in their Croydon home.

The show highlighted the stark contrast between Fergus’s lifestyle and that of Cleo’s family, who reportedly struggled with Anna’s modest £1,000 monthly wage.

Allegations of Scripted Scenes

In a viral TikTok video, Cleo disclosed that several scenes were fabricated to create a more dramatic narrative.

She claimed that producers instructed her family to portray their local park as desolate and unsafe, despite her brothers never having played there. Additionally, a scene where her family pretended to be frightened by perceived threats was allegedly staged with the involvement of their security personnel.

Cleo also revealed that her mother was sent to a corner shop in Heath, an area where they do not typically shop, and given a £40 budget to simulate a weekly grocery run. She emphasized that her family’s financial situation was misrepresented, stating, “It was just very fake, very scripted. My family are not poor, far from poor.”

The Impact of the Revelations

The allegations have sparked discussions about the authenticity of reality television. Fergus Prutton’s struggle to complete a £40 grocery shop, which he typically spends £130 on himself, was a pivotal moment in the episode. However, Cleo’s claims suggest that such moments may have been orchestrated to enhance the show’s narrative.

Channel 5 has been approached for comment regarding the allegations. The revelations come as the show continues to air, raising questions about the ethical practices of reality TV production. Cleo’s statements have resonated with viewers, many of whom have expressed concerns over the authenticity of similar programs.
