Cardiff Crown Court witnessed intense emotions on Wednesday as Ashdon O’Dare received a six-year and six-month sentence for his role in the Ely riots.
The public gallery erupted with cries, abusive shouts, and obscene gestures as Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke handed down the verdict.
Supporters of O’Dare shouted “We love you Ash.” and hurled insults at the judge, with one individual making a vulgar gesture.
Judge Lloyd-Clarke had earlier highlighted O’Dare’s pivotal role in the riots, describing him as the first to become aggressive and confrontational towards police officers.

A 24-year-old woman from Cardiff has tragically passed away just weeks after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. Caitlin Leggett’s family was informed in that she had only six months to live. Her identical twin had been fundraising for a potentially life-saving treatment abroad.
Tragically, just two weeks after the fundraiser began, Caitlin suffered a severe brain bleed that led to multiple strokes and a rapid decline in her health. This heartbreaking turn of events has left her family and community in mourning.

Man arrested following dramatic house fire
A man has been arrested after a dramatic house fire in Treforest, Pontypridd. Emergency services were called to the blaze on Wood Road shortly after 2am on Wednesday morning. Footage from the scene showed flames engulfing a first-floor window of a terraced house, with numerous emergency personnel in attendance.
South Wales Police confirmed that no one was injured in the fire. A 23-year-old man from Treforest was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life.
Cardiff foodbank faces unprecedented shortage
For the first time in its history, Cardiff’s foodbank has run out of essential items. The foodbank, which supports 20,000 people annuallyhas seen a significant drop in donations due to increased financial strain on potential donors.
Rachel Biggs, who leads the foodbank, attributed the shortage to a combination of factors, primarily the growing number of people struggling financially and unable to donate. The foodbank operates 12 weekly foodbanks in the capital and has never faced such a severe shortage of core items.
