A4232 Cardiff Road Closure: Emergency Services Respond to Incident

The A4232 near Cardiff is experiencing a major disruption as emergency services attend to a road traffic collision. The incident, which occurred on what has been recorded as the hottest June day in Wales, has led to the closure of part of the road in both directions, causing significant delays for motorists.

With temperatures soaring to 31°C drivers have been seen attempting to cool off outside their vehicles, adding to the complexity of the situation. The southbound carriageway is closed at Culverhouse Cross and traffic is queueing from the Leckwith Interchange to the A48 Culverhouse Cross.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time, and motorists are urged to seek alternative routes.

Current Road Closures and Diversions

The A4232 is currently closed in both directions between Leckwith and Culverhouse Cross. The southbound carriageway has been closed at Culverhouse Cross and traffic is being diverted off at the junction.

The northbound side has since reopened, but delays are still affecting motorists.

South Wales Police have issued a statement urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Traffic Wales has also advised motorists to allow extra travel time due to the incident. The closure is impacting other roads in Cardiff, with Lansdowne Road and Cowbridge Road West experiencing heavier than normal traffic.

Impact on Local Traffic

The incident has caused long queues on both sides of the road. On the southbound carriageway traffic is queueing from the M4 junction 33 to Culverhouse Cross. On the northbound side traffic is queueing from the Leckwith Interchange to Culverhouse Cross.

A motorist who drove past moments after the incident occurred reported that a van is blocking both lanes causing huge queues heading towards the M4. The police and fire services are present at the scene, indicating the severity of the incident.

Updates and Advisories

Councillor for Caerau Peter Bradbury has provided updates on the situation, stating that the road is expected to be closed for some time. Councillor for Rhiwbina Jayne Cowan has also posted on Facebook informing the public that the A4232 southbound is closed at Culverhouse Cross and traffic is being diverted off at that junction.

As the situation develops, motorists are advised to stay informed through Traffic Wales and Inrix for real-time updates. The closure is expected to have a significant impact on travel in and around Cardiff, and drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly.
