Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray in a London nightclub assault case, admitting his involvement in an unprovoked attack on a music producer.
The music world was taken aback when Chris Brown the renowned American singer, pleaded guilty to affray in a London court. The incident, which occurred at the Tape private members’ club in Mayfair in 2026 involved an alleged attack on a music producer named Abraham Diaw.
Brown, who turned 37 this year, had initially faced more serious charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon. However, these charges were dropped as he and his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu admitted to affray. The sentencing is scheduled for October 26.
The Incident and Its Aftermath
According to the prosecution, Brown struck Diaw twice over the head with a glass bottle. Akinlolu then joined in, punching the victim in the head. The assault continued as Diaw attempted to flee, with the victim ultimately being kicked while seated defenseless on the floor.
Diaw suffered head and knee injuries and was treated at St Mary’s Hospital.
The incident took place on February 19, 2026 but Brown was not arrested until May 15, 2026. He was detained at the Lowry Hotel in Salford where he had arrived on a private jet for his European tour. Brown was released from Forest Bank prison in Salford six days later.
The Legal Proceedings
At Southwark Crown Court, Brown and Akinlolu admitted to affray, a less serious offense compared to the initial charges. The court heard how Brown pursued Diaw through the nightclub during the attack. The prosecution described the incident as a vicious and unprovoked attack in a crowded nightclub.
Claire Campbell Senior Crown Prosecutor in CPS London South emphasized the severity of the attack. She stated that Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon, striking the victim’s head twice. Campbell reiterated that such violence is entirely unacceptable and that the Crown Prosecution Service will pursue cases like this to prove that no one is above the law.

This incident is not the first time Brown has faced legal troubles. In 2009 he was sentenced to five years’ probation and six months’ community labor for assaulting his former partner, pop singer Rihanna. The 2009 incident involved a brutal attack where Brown hit, choked, and bit Rihanna, attempting to push her out of a moving car.
Despite his legal issues, Brown remains one of the most successful R&B artists of his generation.
