Protests took place in the night from Seattle to New York City, people blocked traffic in Washington and marched the streets chanting after the closure of the polls.
More than a thousand people protested near the White House during the night and hundred more marched through the streets of Washington and around the renamed Black Lives Matter plaza. Two men were detained outside the Labourers’ International Union building, although the reason is not yet clear.
Police officers created a barrier between the men and the crowd while protesters started shouting “no justice, no peace”. People were kicking police bicycles, setting off fireworks and some stabbed tires at parked police vans.
Anti-Trump demonstrations also took place in Portland, Oregon and Seattle. People were seen dancing and singing while they waited for results from the polls. The first polls to close were Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, South Caroline, Vermont and Virginia.
People also stood at the White House fence with anti-Trump placards, chanting. Protests were expected after the closure of the polls and many businesses had protected their stores in case of violent clashes.
