Newcastle United has unveiled ambitious plans for a £190 million training complex, featuring an energy center, health village, and 17 full-size pitches.
Newcastle United has taken a significant step forward in their vision for the future with the unveiling of plans for a new £190 million state-of-the-art training ground. The project, set to be developed on a 260-acre site near Newcastle Airport, promises to create what the club describes as the world’s best performance environment for their teams.
The stunning images released by the club, designed by architects Populous, showcase a range of cutting-edge facilities. These include an energy centre a health village a members’ club and a war room as well as a breathtaking hub named The Stables overlooking a walled garden.
The complex will also feature 17 full-size pitches for use by the first team and academy.
The Vision Behind the Project
Chief executive David Hopkinson described the project as a landmark moment for the club. The development is part of a broader vision to create purpose-built facilities geared towards sustainable success.
Hopkinson emphasized the club’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the historic estate, its biodiversity, and wildlife habitats, while also being a great neighbor to the surrounding community.
The plans, which could still be modified, are subject to planning approval. The club aims to complete the project by the summer of 2029. This ambitious undertaking follows a recent £10 million extension of their current training ground, demonstrating the club’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development.

The site at Woolsington Hall holds historical significance for Newcastle United. Former chairman Sir John Hall and his family owned the land, which was initially envisioned for an academy in the 1990s. The club’s chief operating officer, Brad Miller, expressed delight in finalizing the agreement to acquire the land, highlighting the historical connection and the potential for a magnificent training complex.
Miller outlined the club’s plans to renovate and enhance listed structures and parkland, retaining them as key elements in the designs. The aim is to develop world-class facilities for players and staff while preserving the beauty of the location for future generations.
