MotoGP Mugello: Jorge Lorenzo dominates FP1

Jorge Lorenzo dominated the first MotoGP free practice at Mugello.
The Spaniard who is wearing a new helmet design for this weekend’s Italian Gp with a Black Mamba on it, was fast from the start of the session with a series of fast runs, shaving of tenths of a second lap after lap that brought him to the top of the timesheets with a best time of 1:48.

Only Casey Stoner could get close to him and he was +0.
518s from the Yamaha rider and able to obtain the result on his penultimate lap after lingering in lower top ten for most of the session.
Repsol Honda team mate Dani Pedrosa who took his first victory last week at Sachsenring and just renewed with the factory team for another two years – took third and he was 0.

Nicky Hayden was once again the fastest Ducati rider in fourth, but he was unable to improve his lap time after his fastest lap done early in the session and he finished ahead of Cal Crutchlow who posted his best time on his spare machine after his first M1 suffered a techincial issue, while Tech3 team mate Andrea Dovizioso was 6th.

Valentino Rossi took seventh and he was 0.
943s off pace and just 0.
036s from Dovi and less than a tenth from Hayden.
Hector Barbera was 8th and for the first time he did his laps without a tow and he has posted the top speed of 345.
5 km/h.
Ben Spies finished in 9th, but he suffered a crash in the finale with his airbag leathers deploying to protect him.
Alvaro Bautista took 11th but he ran off track at the San Donato and then crashed, ruining the new white livery that Gresini has decided to adopt again.
