Brett McCormick expects to be back for Silverstone round

Brett McCormick, after scarily (it was just after Imola where Joan Lascorz broke his 6th vertebra which resulted in the Spaniard becoming a paraplegic) fracturing his C5 vertebra and breaking his right thumb during Assen’s race 2, said from his hospital bed that he would be targeting a return to action in August for the 8th round of the World Superbike season at Silverstone.

The Canadian rider is right on par with his recovery programme and has already begun physiotherapy and will be present during next week’s round at Brno to undergo a check-up on his condition with the Clinica Mobile and the FIM Medical Director in order to get the green light for his return to racing at Silverstone in three weeks time.

“I got clearance from my doctor about 2 weeks ago to start doing physio, and get back into shape,” wrote McCormick on his Facebook page.
“I’ve been working hard everyday and the neck is feeling awesome.
I’m suffering from a bit of whiplash, but the bone is healed up 99% and I don’t get any pain from it anymore.

I’ve been on my road bicycle pretty much everyday for the past 2 months so my lungs are ready to get back at it, just need the rest of my body to get back into shape.
”Not only has the Canadian started rehabilitation and working out he also started training with an MX bike.
“Yesterday was the first time I’ve been back on a bike since the accident, and I didn’t suffer any soreness in my neck or thumb from riding.
I went out to our local Motocross track to mess around a bit, and I have to say that was probably the best feeling ever after not turning a throttle for 3 months.
I’m going to continue doing some MX until I head back to Europe.
Everything has gone according to plan with the recovery and should be all good to make my return at Silverstone!”
