Marco Melandri: "Sykes was the real champion"

Marco Melandri came in third in the 2012 World Superbike Championship, but too many crashes in the last part of the season kept him from the title, but the Italian can be happy that in his first year with German squad he gave the manufacturer six wins and five second place podiums (check out BMW’s season highlight video above).

In his personal blog Melandri briefly touches on his season, thanking BMW for the great year and looking forward to the team being run by BMW Italia.
The belief that with Italia 1 taking over World Superbikes broadcasting rights next year the series will continue grow and become more popular and he is one of the few people who isn’t afraid of the change that Dorna could bring to the championship now that they will be running it.

Melandri also congratulated Biaggi on winning the championship, but believes that Tom Sykes deserved it more.
“I want to congratulate Max on his success and Aprilia on its winning team strategy.
Finally congrats to Tom Sykes, who is never mentioned, but who showed to be a great pilot, in my opinion he deserved to win the title more than anyone.

He was the real champion.
