Marco Melandri undergoes ankle surgery

After completing 237 laps during his third and latest test on the Aprilia RSV4 at the Spanish circuit of Jerez de la Frontera, Marco Melandri underwent ankle surgery yesterday at the Policlinico Universitario in Modena.
The Italian suffered the injury to his right ankle last month, just days ahead the final round of the 2013 World Superbike championship at Jerez, and the injury forced him to skip race two in his last race for BMW Goldbet.

The surgery also kept Melandri from taking part in the second edition of the “Sic Supermoto Day” benefit race weekend that is currently taking place at Latina, where unfortunately former GP and World Superbike rider Doriano Romboni suffered a horrific crash and was hit by oncoming Gianluca Vizziello during the afternoon practice session.

The 44-year old Romboni was air lifted to the local hospital after receiving CPR treatment at the kart circuit.
