Andrea Iannone took his third pole position of the season and his second in a row in today’s Moto2 qualifying session ahead of the Catalunya GP.
The Fimmco Speed Up rider put in a best lap of 1′47″493 that set him on top of the timesheets and 0.
267s ahead of Yuki Takahashi and third place Thomas Luthi who is riding with an injured collarbone.
Toni Elias, the current points leader took fourth followed by Jules Cluzel in fifth who was more that six tenths off Iannone’s best time.
Carmelo Morales, who is riding as substitute for injured Axel Pons took sixth.
The Spanish rider is the 2008 and 2009 European Superstock 1000 champion and currently races in the Spanish CEV with the Laglisse team on a Suter, and this is the first time he’s ridden a Kalex chassis.
Shoya Tomizawa took seventh despite another crash in qualifyin, while Ratthapark Wilairot (who was fined $3000 after Alex Debon crashed trying to avoid the Bimota rider who was lingering on the race line) finished in eighth ahead of Kenny Noyes, who has actor and team owner Antonio Banderas following him this weekend.
Tenth went to Roberto Rolfo.
Ricky Cardus who is subbing for injures Stefan Bradl in the Viessmann Kiefer Racing and currently rides in the CEV with friend Jorge Lorenzo’s X Fuera logos on his bike was 27th.
Yusuke Teshima who replaced Mattia Pasini in JiR Moto2 was only 36th.
Pasini talking to Italia 1 stated that he found out that he sacked after receiving an email from Montiron on Wednesday while he was heading to the airport.
