WSBK Assen: Wet qualifying QP2 defines Superpole partecipants

A very wet and cold QP2 at Assen determined which sixteen riders will part in this afternoon’s WSBK Superpole with the QP1 results coming into play as no rider was able to better his lap times.

600 posted yesterday got safely into Superpole as did Tom Sykes, Leon Camier, Carlos Checa, Jonathan Rea, Michel Fabrizio, Ayrton Badovini, Marco Melandri, Maxime Berger, Chaz Davies, Eugene Laverty, Jakub Smrz, John Hopkins, Leon Haslam, Brett McCormick and David Salom.

Max Biaggi for the third time in his World Superbike career was out of a Superbike session as he qualified only 17th, and he’ll be on the sidelines with Niccolo Canepa and Davide Giugiano, Leandro Mercado, Hiroshi Aoyama, Mark Aitchison and Lorenzo Zanetti.
The fastest rider in QP2 was Jakub Smrz who posted his best lap in 1’55.
659 during the final minutes of the session when the track conditions were slightly better.

Behind the Effenbert Ducati rider was Carlos Checa and Tom Sykes.
Due the tricky conditions several riders crashed, Michel Fabrizio, Leandro Mercado and Davide Giugliano binned it at the infamous Ruskenhoek corner, while Jonathan Rea fell at the Osserbroeken and Brett McCormick crashed out at the Haarbocht during his last lap.
