Gas prices in Italy

If you’re thinking of taking a riding vaction in Italy, you may want to try to find your own way to bring gas, unless you want to take out an extra loan or a second mortgage on your house.
Between the usual speculation, the exchange rate between the euro and dollar, the two new excise taxes on gas that the Berlusconi government added at the beginning of July to finance the state of emergency due to the flow of thousands of people fleeing from North Africa and landing on Italian coasts and the FUS (funds for companies working in film, music, dance, theater, circuses and traveling shows), prices have skyrocketed.

This photo was taken by Andrea, a reader of Motoblog who had to fill up his gas tank just last Sunday during a day trip in the mountains, and you don’t have to rub your eyes or think you’re hallucinating, because 1,685 euros per liter for unleaded gas is what he had to dish out.

Prices in major cities are slightly lower, but they can range from 1,634 to 1,641 euros per liter, so if you’re heading to Italy you may want to look around before pulling into the first gas station you see.
