Carlos Checa celebrated not only Ducati’s 300th victory in World Superbikes with his win in race 1 at Silverstone, but in race 2 he also celebrated his own 100th Superbike race with another comfortable victory, with Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri rejoining him once again on the podium.
Checa carried over the same tatics he used in the first race over into race 2; first disposing of Leon Camier who was running in second (no ride-by-wire sensor failure for the Aprilia rider this time) and then overtaking early race leader Eugene Laverty on the seventh of the 18 laps and immediately began to edge away, an exact photocopy of race 1.
The Althea rider cruised under the chequered flag with a comfortable 2.
271s margin while putting 62 points between himself and Max Biaggi in the standings.
Eugene Laverty took another easy second again, while Marco Melandri had use all his wits and battle for his third place podium with Max Biaggi.
The two warring Italian’s who exchanged paint several times before catching up with Leon Camier with only four laps left.
Melandri outbraked hard the English rider, gaining the third spot, with Biaggi hot on his team mate’s tail, making his sticking move on the second to last lap at the Club Corner.
Biaggi then tried to overtake Melandri, but it was just too late in the game.
Sylvain Guintoli finished sixth against wildcard John Hopkins, who stuck with the front runners for a while until his tires screamed bloody hell forcing him to fade in the last part of the race.
Leon Haslam grabbed eighth followed by an aching Michel Fabrizio with Ayrton Badovini rounding out the top ten.
Noriyuki Haga pitted early in the race as did Alex Lowes, other DNFs included Roberto Rolfo, Joan Lascorz and Troy Corser.
