Latest rugby news: Tuipulotu's departure, Itoje's absence, and Wales Women's new faces

The rugby world is witnessing significant shifts as players navigate new opportunities and teams prepare for upcoming challenges. From high-profile departures to surprising omissions and the emergence of fresh talent, the sport continues to evolve in exciting ways.

Recent developments have captured the attention of fans and analysts alike, with key players making strategic moves and national teams announcing their squads for important fixtures.

Carwyn Tuipulotu seeks new horizons after Pau departure

Carwyn Tuipulotuthe 24-year-old Welsh No 8, has parted ways with Top 14 side Pau and is on the lookout for a new club. Known for his impressive skills, Tuipulotu was once considered a potential successor to Taulupe Faletau in Welsh rugby circles.

Tuipulotu’s journey includes eight years at the Scarlets, where he made 48 appearances, and a brief loan spell at Saracens before joining Pau in. Despite his solid performances, securing a regular starting spot proved challenging due to the squad’s depth.

His contract was not renewed, and he has been linked with a move to PRO D2 outfit Biarritz Olympique.

Reflecting on his time at Pau, Tuipulotu expressed gratitude, stating, “Thank you to my teammates, staff, supporters and everyone involved with this special club. I leave with memories for life and brothers for life. The next chapter is still unknown, but I’m hopeful for what’s ahead.”

Tuipulotu comes from a rugby pedigree, being the son of former Ebbw Vale and Tonga No 8 Kati Tuipulotu and the cousin of Bath hooker Kepu and Wales Women prop Sisilia.

Maro Itoje’s absence raises questions about England’s summer plans

The omission of Maro Itoje from England’s enlarged squad has sparked speculation about his role in the upcoming summer schedule. The squad, named to resume preparations for a non-cap international against France on Friday, includes several new faces but notably excludes Itoje.

This absence has led to discussions about whether Itoje might be rested for all or part of the July tour, which includes Tests against South Africa, Fiji, and Argentina. The addition of second rows Ollie Chessum, George Martin, and Charlie Ewels to the squad provides England head coach Steve Borthwick with options to manage Itoje’s workload.

Bath flanker Sam Underhill has also been omitted from the squad, amid reports of a potential operation for an undisclosed injury. Meanwhile, star wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, who underwent surgery for a facial injury, has returned to Exeter, raising hopes for an early comeback in the Premiership final.

One player eager to make his mark is teenage try machine Noah Caluori, who has been named the Premiership’s breakthrough player of the season. Caluori, with 18 tries to his name, is hoping to make his England debut and has been receiving valuable advice from Itoje, his Saracens team-mate and captain.

Caluori shared his admiration for Itoje, saying, “He’s amazing. A man full of knowledge, a man full of experience, and it is incredible to be captained by him. I’m hoping to get the opportunity to get my first cap.”

Wales Women introduce new talent for Barbarians clash

Wales Women head coach Sean Lynn has named a 33-player squad for their upcoming clash against the Barbarians Women at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, June 27th. The match is part of a unique double-header, with the Wales men’s senior side also facing the Barbarians.

The Wales squad features a host of new faces, including 14 players set to wear the senior Wales jersey for the first time. Among the newcomers are teenage scrum half Lily Hawkins, centre Hanna Tudor, and prop Crystal James, all of whom will train with the senior squad for the first time.

Lynn emphasized the opportunity this match presents, stating, “This is a great opportunity for the players, coaches and staff, and no other nation has the chance to play again straight after the recent Six Nations campaign.” He highlighted the chance to build playing philosophy and assess exciting young talent coming through the pathway and Celtic Challenge teams.

The Wales squad includes players from Gloucester-Hartpury, Saracens, and Ealing Trailfinders, who recently competed in the PWR semi-finals. Lynn noted that the door is open for selection, and this match is a valuable opportunity for younger players to experience what is expected at the international level.

As the rugby world continues to evolve, these developments underscore the dynamic nature of the sport and the constant pursuit of excellence by players and teams alike.
