Maine High School Teams Secure State Titles in Baseball, Softball, and Lacrosse

Maine high schools celebrated championship victories in baseball, softball, and lacrosse, with dramatic finishes and standout performances across multiple classes.

The state of Maine witnessed a flurry of athletic excellence as high school teams competed for supremacy in baseball, softball, and lacrosse. Championship Saturday saw intense matches, dramatic comebacks, and record-breaking performances that left spectators on the edge of their seats.

From the diamond to the lacrosse field, these young athletes showcased their skills and determination, making this year’s championships unforgettable.

Baseball: A Weekend of Thrilling Comebacks

The baseball championships were a testament to resilience and strategy. In the Class A final, Gorham High School emerged victorious against Bangor in an 11-inning marathon.

The game was tied at 2 in the sixth inning when Gorham’s Jacoby Harvey tied the score with a crucial hit. The decisive moment came in the 11th inning when Hunter Finck’s RBI single secured the win for Gorham, marking their first state title since 2005.

Monmouth Academy made history in the Class C final with a dramatic 5-4 victory over Washington Academy. Trailing 4-3 in the seventh inning, Noah Schultz’s two-run single turned the tide, securing Monmouth’s second consecutive championship. Other notable victories included Fryeburg Academy’s 4-3 win over Cony in Class B and Fort Fairfield’s 4-1 triumph over Telstar in Class D.

Softball: Undefeated Seasons and Record-Breaking Performances

The softball championships were equally thrilling. Cheverus High School capped an undefeated season with a 3-2 victory over Hampden Academy in the Class A final. Addison Deroche’s stellar pitching, including striking out the side in the second inning, was pivotal in securing the title. In the Class C final, Dirigo’s Xandria Libby hit a game-winning run in the sixth inning to defeat Bucksport 5-1.

Medomak Valley dominated the Class B final with a 7-0 shutout against Gardiner, while NYA secured a 14-4 victory over Penobscot Valley in the Class D final. These victories highlighted the exceptional talent and teamwork displayed by Maine’s high school softball players.

Lacrosse: Dramatic Finishes and Perfect Seasons

The lacrosse championships were filled with intense action and dramatic finishes. Falmouth High School claimed the boys Class A title with a 13-8 victory over crosstown rival Yarmouth. The game saw multiple lead changes, with Falmouth’s Ian Christie scoring a crucial goal in the third quarter to secure the win.

Maranacook/Winthrop completed a perfect season by winning the girls Class C championship with a 13-3 victory over NYA. The team’s exceptional teamwork and individual performances, such as Stella Stewart’s assists and goals, were key to their success. Thornton Academy made history by winning its first-ever girls Class A lacrosse state championship with a 9-8 victory over Kennebunk.
