The game was tied at 2 in the sixth inning when Gorham’s Jacoby Harvey tied the score with a crucial hit. The decisive moment came in the 11th inning when Hunter Finck’s RBI single secured the win for Gorham, marking their first state title since 2005.
Monmouth Academy made history in the Class C final with a dramatic 5-4 victory over Washington Academy. Trailing 4-3 in the seventh inning, Noah Schultz’s two-run single turned the tide, securing Monmouth’s second consecutive championship. Other notable victories included Fryeburg Academy’s 4-3 win over Cony in Class B and Fort Fairfield’s 4-1 triumph over Telstar in Class D.
Softball: Undefeated Seasons and Record-Breaking Performances
The softball championships were equally thrilling. Cheverus High School capped an undefeated season with a 3-2 victory over Hampden Academy in the Class A final. Addison Deroche’s stellar pitching, including striking out the side in the second inning, was pivotal in securing the title. In the Class C final, Dirigo’s Xandria Libby hit a game-winning run in the sixth inning to defeat Bucksport 5-1.
Medomak Valley dominated the Class B final with a 7-0 shutout against Gardiner, while NYA secured a 14-4 victory over Penobscot Valley in the Class D final. These victories highlighted the exceptional talent and teamwork displayed by Maine’s high school softball players.

Maranacook/Winthrop completed a perfect season by winning the girls Class C championship with a 13-3 victory over NYA. The team’s exceptional teamwork and individual performances, such as Stella Stewart’s assists and goals, were key to their success. Thornton Academy made history by winning its first-ever girls Class A lacrosse state championship with a 9-8 victory over Kennebunk.
