Michelle Mullane has tragically died following her battle with bowel cancer at the age of 50. The radio star died on Christmas Eve after bravely battling the cancer she was diagnosed with 1 year ago.

Last year, Michelle had been rushed to hospital in June with agonising stomach pains.

There, the doctors told her she had six months to live without treatment. However, despite the diagnosis, the radio presenter continued to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Her friends tributes

After news of her death, many tributes have flooded in for Michelle.

The most touching was that of Jason Manford. He was Michelle’s close friend and he is the one who confirmed the sad news on social media.

In a long statement, Jason wrote: “Just found out my dear friend and ex-BBC Manchester presenter Michelle Mullane sadly passed away on Christmas Eve. I have so many fond memories of Michelle from when I was starting out in stand up in the late 90s”. And he continued: “Michelle was the first person to get me on the airwaves and we spent many an evening laughing, flirting & joking over brews; on air and off”. Moreover, Jason also wanted to pointed out the fact that Michelle was an incredible supporter of new talent. Infact, she gave a leg up to many northern comedians at a time of a severe crisis in London.

Numerous tributes also from the entertainment world. ITV correspondent Rob Smith also said: “So sad to hear this morning that the broadcaster Michelle Mullane has died”. After reiterating her commitment to fundraising for cancer research, he conveyed his condolences to family and friends.

At the same time, Elaine Willcox wrote: “So sad to hear Michelle Mullane died on Christmas Eve. She was a brilliant broadcaster & wonderful friend to our dear Tony Morris. Thoughts with all her friends & family. 2020 we can’t wait for you to end”.

Michelle told about her devastating cancer diagnosis earlier this year. She started the chemotherapy immediately after the dignosis and she said she was extremely grateful. She explained: “When you have cancer your only priority is to stay alive and it’s thanks to treatment that my disease is being managed and I am still here today”.
