Urgency: Krispy Kreme recalls football-themed doughnuts over hazelnut allergy risk

Krispy Kreme has issued an urgent recall for two of its World Cup-inspired doughnut products due to potential hazelnut contamination that isn’t declared on the packaging. The recall affects the Pitch Perfect Doughnut and the Match Day Dozen box, both designed to celebrate the ongoing football tournament.

The Pitch Perfect Doughnut features green and white icing resembling a football pitch, with a white chocolate filling. According to Krispy Kreme’s allergy guidance, it should only contain allergens including wheat, soya, and milk. The Match Day Dozen box, priced at £21.99, includes two Pitch Perfect Doughnuts along with a selection of other varieties.

Products affected by the recall

The recall impacts batches of the Pitch Perfect Doughnut sold individually with best-before dates of June 21, 2026, and June 22, 2026. Similarly, the Match Day Dozen boxes with the same best-before dates are also being recalled.

These products were manufactured at Krispy Kreme’s Peterborough site and distributed to stores in Leicester, Nottingham, Ipswich, Norwich, and Cambridge, as well as local supermarkets.

Customer safety and refund information

Krispy Kreme is advising customers not to consume the affected products and to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund, regardless of whether they have a receipt. The best-before date can be checked on the ‘tamper evident sticker’ on the packaging.

A company spokesperson expressed regret for any inconvenience caused, stating, ‘We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment this product recall may cause you.’ The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has also issued an alert, warning that the products may pose a health risk to individuals with hazelnut allergies.

Steps for affected customers

Customers who have purchased the affected products are encouraged to contact Krispy Kreme’s customer care email address for further information. The FSA has emphasized the importance of not consuming the products if you have a hazelnut allergy and to return them to the store for a refund.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate allergen labeling and the potential risks associated with undeclared ingredients. Krispy Kreme has reiterated its commitment to product safety and consumer well-being.
