The PM fears second surge of coronavirus
New Covid rules will be enforced in England from Thursday 24 September as authorities attempt to prevent a second wave of the virus.
New measures could last for six months according to the Prime Minister. Boris Johnson addressed the House of Commons Tuesday 22 September to deliver the latest Covid restrictions. He followed this with a televised address to the nation at 8pm last night to drill the message home.
Not complying with mask-wearing rules will result in a £200 fine, double what it was before. Pubs and restaurants will be forced to close at 10pm, on this point, the PM added that 10pm is when the doors must shut, not just last orders. All orders must also be via table service now to avoid queueing at bars. It is now compulsory for all staff in the hospitality and services sector to wear masks.
In taxis, customers will now also have to wear masks. The back to work initiative has been scrapped and the reverse has been put into place as the Government urges people to work from home again if possible.
The number of people allowed at weddings has been halved from 30 to 15 even though the number of people allowed to go to funerals remains at 30.
The PM reiterated the necessity to stick to the rule of six for gatherings with friends and family. The rule of six will also apply to indoor sports from Thursday onwards and all trials of spectators for professional sports have been cancelled. Schools, universities and nurseries will all remain open, but with current social restrictions applying. Churches and places of worship for all different religions will stay open.
